Team

Artist-curators Anjani Khanna, Madhvi Subrahmanian, Neha Kudchadkar, Reyaz Badaruddin, Sharbani Das Gupta, and Vineet Kacker came together in 2016 with the a shared vision to expand the perception of ceramics and the platforms that showcase the diverse range of growing ceramics practices in India. They co-founded and co-curated the Indian Ceramics Triennale in 2018 with the highly acclaimed first iteration Breaking Ground. The second iteration Common Ground will be on show from January 19th to March 31st 2024 at Arthshila, Okhla, New Delhi. As internationally recognised practicing ceramicists in their own right, they bring their unique material experience to the curatorial process, working on a volunteer basis with the aim to nurture and promote contemporary ceramic art expression. In 2022, they were joined by international curator Kanika Anand and artist Sangeeta Kapila. The current advisory committee includes Pooja Sood, Ray Meeker and Preeta Singh.

ANJANI KHANNA

MUMBAI | INDIA

Anjani Khanna is a ceramic sculptor, curator, and writer. She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Geneva. Anjani studied ceramics with Ray Meeker at the Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry and has been artist-in-residence in the US, Europe, Australia, China and India. Anjani has received several fellowships and grants in India and abroad. She is co-founder and director of the Contemporary Clay Foundation. Her work has been exhibited in India and abroad, most recently as part of a six museum tour in the US.

NEHA KUDCHADKAR

MUMBAI | INDIA

Neha Kudchadkar is a visual and performing artist currently based in Mumbai. She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London, and the Faculty of Fine Art, M.S.U., Baroda. Neha has shown her work in several exhibitions within India and abroad. She is a recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarship and the Junior Fellowship, Government of India. She is a co-founder and director of beej, a performing arts collective in Mumbai.

MADHVI SUBRAHMANIAN

SINGAPORE

Artist, curator, writer, Madhvi Subrahmanian trained at the Golden Bridge Pottery,Pondicherry and has a MFA  from SMU, Dallas, TX. Madhvi has been on art-residencies in Japan, China, Korea, Thailand and the US. Her sculptures and installations can be seen in several private and public collections such as Bangalore airport-T2, India Heritage centre Singapore, Shigaraki Ceramic Sculptural Park, Japan, and the Fule Museum in Fuping, China. She has shown at several biennales and museums  around the world and her upcoming projects includes a public art work for a subway station in Singapore. Madhvi is a co-founder and co-curator of Indian Ceramics Triennale and an advisory board member of Hampi Art Labs. She shows with Gallery Chemould Prescott Road in Mumbai.

REYAZ BADARUDDIN

ANDRETTA | INDIA

Reyaz Badaruddin is a teacher and artist who recently moved to the Himalayas, where he has a studio, Atelier Lalmitti. Reyaz graduated in Ceramic Design from the Benaras Hindu University. He was awarded a Charles Wallace Scholarship to complete an MA in Ceramics at the Cardiff School of Art and Design, UK. He is a recipient of the National and Junior Fellowships by the Government of India. Reyaz has participated in several national and international exhibitions and residencies. His work is in the collection of the Mark Rothko Art Center in Latvia, the FULE International Ceramic Museum in China and other public and private collections.

SHARBANI DAS GUPTA

LAS CRUCES | USA

Sharbani Das Gupta is an elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics and Artaxis. A graduate of the National Institute of Design and an apprentice of Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry, Sharbani also worked as an assistant in the Arita porcelain studio at the University of New Mexico. She has exhibited in the UK, China, Greece, Israel, Australia, Taiwan, India and the US. Her work features in clay-related art journals and in The Craft and Art of Clay. An author and an active participant in international clay conferences, she recently moderated a discussion on cultural appropriation at NCECA 2018.

VINEET KACKER

NEW DELHI | INDIA

Vineet Kacker works as a full-time artist and part-time curator. After graduating as an architect in 1989, he studied ceramics at the Andretta Pottery, Himachal and the Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry. He studied in a post-experience program at the University of Wales Institute, U.K. and is a recipient of the Charles Wallace Fellowship and a Fulbright grant. A member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Geneva, his work is in several collections – notably the Museum of Contemporary Ceramics at Icheon, Korea; the Indian Ceramics Museum at Fuping, China, and the archival collection at Aberystwyth, UK.

Kanika anand

CALGARY | CANADA

Kanika Anand is the Senior Curator at Contemporary Calgary, Canada, and Curatorial Team Member of the Indian Ceramics Triennale

She holds a Master’s degree in Art History from the National Museum Institute, India, has been curatorial fellow at the Centre National d’Art Contemporain, Grenoble, France (2012-13) and fellow at the Global Cultural Leadership Programme, organised by the European Cultural Foundation (2018). 
She has over 16 years of experience across curatorial, managerial and editorial roles across North America, Europe and India, and her curatorial approach hinges on articulating the relevance of socio-cultural practices, and their function as a reflection of contemporary times.

Sangeeta kapila

MUMBAI | INDIA

Sangeeta Kapila is a studio potter. She has completed a post graduate diploma in Indian Art, Aesthetics and Curatorial Studies from the Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai. She worked previously as the General Manager, Communications for CRY (Child Rights and You) and did client servicing at Ogilvy and Mather, India. Sangeeta is on the core organising team of the Studio Potters’ Market in Mumbai. She organised the Salad Bowls exhibition at Cafe Zoe in Mumbai. Sangeeta is interested in building potters’ communities across the country. Sangeeta works from her studio Clayfullyours in Mumbai.
