The Reassembly Ground

2020-2023 | Stoneware, stains

Oxana Geets' work is a comment on the fractured nature of the immigrant experience. Within this installation are works that were made both before and after her relocation to another country. The characters that were created before her move display a wholeness, strength, and self-assurance, and at first sight, it's not apparent that they are divided into several parts and can be reassembled easily. Several new works have been added to the collection; they all make the opposite impression of fallen apart, broken figures.

The artist aims to convey the emotional journey linked to immigration, encompassing disorder, confusion, loss, and the rupture of all social bonds. The Reassembly Ground contemplates the effort of rebuilding one's life in a new place, on new ground. Reimagining a new self is not merely about finding a new place to live, but also about adapting to unfamiliar surroundings and creating a new sense of belonging.
