This artwork embodies the concept of negating identity with the phrase "not this, not that" or "neither this nor that."
It takes the form of two cones that partially merge into each other, sharing common elements that shift between them, creating a dynamic and ever-changing experience for viewers. This interaction between the cones symbolizes the non-duality of completeness and incompleteness, ultimately converging to represent the philosophical idea of Advaita, where the material world enters the realm of eternity. Teja Gavankar's work delves into the profound concept of 'neti-neti’, leading viewers to a realization of unity within the infinite expanse of space.
This is the first time she has used a motion/electronic system in her work with the technical help of Vishhal Kadam, her partner. It is a participatory work where the viewer,
TEJA GAVANKAR received her BFA from L.S. Raheja School of Art, Bandra, Mumbai & Master’s in Visual Arts in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S. U. Baroda. She also holds a certificate in Indian Aesthetics from Mumbai University, Mumbai. Mainly interested in drawings, she prefers to work with spaces and objects/materials around her. Teja’s interest is in subverting mundane spaces and adding a new perception to them. Her works provoke thoughts on spatial subjectivity, which is a combination of subjective and objective reality. Teja Gavankar lives and works in Mumbai. She has been teaching Design at the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai for 8 years now. She is currently represented by Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai.
