BLOSSOMING - BEING ALL OF THEM SHE STANDS THERE

Priya Sundaravalli’s studio practice is a spiritual quest, where she allows her forms, through rhythm and multiplicity, to express the poetic and organic beauty of nature. Her large sculpture Blossoming - Being all of them She Stands There is crafted from eight fibre glass discs and connecting membranes, whose entire surface is covered with more than 3,000 ceramic flowers and tesserae. She draws her inspiration from Thiruvaimozhi, a collection of Tamil hymns by the 9th century Alvar saint, Nammalvar. One of these hymns praises the Divine: “this man, that woman, and these things… being all of them, He stands there”.
